Do water bugs fly?

While adult water bugs do have wings, they rarely fly. They are capable of gliding for long distances when necessary. The water bug is also known as the Palmetto bug and American cockroach.

The water bug is the largest species of cockroach. It is a reddish-brown color with a pale yellow or brown border. Water bugs are primarily found in basements, bathrooms and sewers of office buildings in the northern region of the United States. In the southern region, they can be found in trees, alleyways and yards. The water bug prefers dark, moist areas. While they will feed on all types of materials, decaying organic matter is preferred. Water bugs also like starches, syrups and sweets.
