Water is a chemical because it is made of matter. Matter is any object that takes up space and has mass. Although water is a liquid, it still has mass and occupies space.
Organisms would not be able to survive without water. It is a major component of blood and sweat. The human body also uses water to protect the joints and spine, to produce urine and to maintain a normal temperature.
Water molecules carry out the task of bending enzymes into three-dimensional shapes. Without water, enzymes would not be able to catalyze chemical reactions. Water also serves as an excellent solvent, making it a versatile substance.
