To get a professional looking manicure at home, start by removing any residual polish with nail polish remover, then file as necessary with a nail file. When the nails are clean and ready, cover with a clear base coat, followed by your dark-blue nail polish, and finish with another coat of clear polish to seal it in. This whole process takes about 15 - 20 minutes.
- Prepare your nails for painting
Remove old nail polish and debris from your nails with an acetone-free nail polish remover. This gives the polish an even, smooth surface. Shape and file your nails using a nail file.
- Apply base coat
Brush one thin layer of a clear base coat on each nail to prevent staining and to help the dark-blue polish last longer.
- Apply the polish
Lift the brush out of the polish bottle. Remove excess liquid from the brush using the inner edge of the bottle opening. Starting in the middle of the nail bed, carefully paint on the polish using long, even strokes. Apply at least two thin coats of polish.
- Apply top coat
Let the nail polish dry for one to two minutes, then apply one layer of clear nail polish over each nail. This adds shine and polish to the completed look while extending the life of your manicure.
- Allow nails to dry
Once the top coat has been applied, allow the nails to dry for at least 15 minutes. Refrain from using your hands during this time.
