Melt caramels in a nonstick pot over medium-high heat while stirring constantly. Ingredients needed are the desired amount of pre-packaged caramel candies, a nonstick pot, a wooden stirring spoon and 2 tablespoons of water. This process should take between 10 to 15 minutes depending upon the amount of caramel candies used.
- Unwrap the caramels
Remove the plastic wrapper from the caramels, and put them into a bowl. Repeat until you have a sufficient amount of the candy for your recipe, or until you have unwrapped the whole bag.
- Place caramels in a nonstick pot
When you have unwrapped a sufficient number of caramels, empty the entire bowl into a nonstick pot that is set over a medium-low heat. Pour 2 to 3 tablespoons of water over the caramels to help them dissolve smoothly. More water may be added per tablespoon to reach the desired consistency.
- Stir the caramels continuously
Stir the caramels constantly. Make sure that you watch the caramel-water mixture closely for a period of 10 to 15 minutes, and continue to stir it over medium-low heat until it has melted and has a smooth, silky consistency. Resist the temptation to turn up the heat to make it melt faster, as this could easily result in burnt caramel.
