What is the way to type a schwa?

It is possible to type an uppercase schwa by holding the "ALT" key and typing "0399" and a lowercase schwa by holding "ALT" and typing "0601.". These codes work for any operating system that fully supports ALT shortcuts. This includes versions of Windows prior to Windows 7, but does not include versions of Mac OS.

If someone is using a program that supports Unicode input, he or she can input "018F" for the uppercase version of a schwa and "0259" for the lowercase schwa, which resembles an upside-down "e." Alternatively, a person can copy and paste either type of the schwa from the Internet, or insert the schwa as a symbol if his or her program supports it, such as with Microsoft Word.
