Paul "Tiny" Meeker bench pressed 1,102 pounds at the 2013 Cajun Hardcore Powerlifting meet in Buna, Texas. As of 2014, this is the current world record for most weight ever bench pressed.
In 2004, Gene Rychlak was the first person to ever bench press more than 1,000 pounds, marking a significant milestone in the sport of powerlifting. Meeker's record was set with a bench shirt, which has been a part of every world record set for bench pressing since 1984. The current record without the help of a bench shirt is 716 pounds, which was done by Eric Spoto in 2013.
