What were the accomplishments of Samuel de Champlain?

The main accomplishments of Samuel de Champlain were establishing Quebec and New France. He was a French explorer who discovered Lake Champlain and mapped northeastern North America.

Samuel de Champlain was born in France in 1574. When he was young he traveled with his uncle to Spain and to the West Indies. In 1601 he became a geographer for King Henry IV and joined an expedition to Canada in 1603. In 1608 he embarked on a journey where he discovered Quebec City. When he returned to France he spent his later years writing about his voyages and drawing intricate maps of the places he had visited.
