What were causes of the Cuban Revolution?

Causes of the Cuban Revolution, which lasted from 1953 through 1959, included president Fulgencio Batista's dictatorship, brutal suppression and poverty. These factors led to a revolution led by Fidel Castro to overthrow Batista and his government.

The Cuban Revolution started when Castro's army made an armed assault on the Moncada Barracks. Fidel was apprehended and exiled to Mexico by President Batista. While in Mexico, Castro had enough time to organize his forces and plan the next assault. After two years of planning, the Castro and his forces landed secretly in Cuba. On January 1, 1959, Batista fled to Dominica Republic, and on January 8, 1959, Castro arrived with his troops and took power.
