Disposable diapers were invented by Paulistr in Sweden in 1942. The first disposable diaper was made from unbleached, creped cellulose tissue held in rubber pants.

Disposable diapers continued evolving in 1946, when a housewife invented a waterproof covering for cloth diapers. This covering was called a "boater" and had four snaps that replaced safety pins.

In the early 1950s, chemical engineer Victor Mills invented the first "real" disposable diaper. At the time of the invention, Mills worked at Proctor & Gamble. He used his grandchildren as test subjects, and within a couple of years, Pampers were born.

Today, disposable diapers have replaced cloth diapers in most households, and there are a number of different brands and sizes to choose from.
