The members of the original Jamaican bobsled team in 1987 were: Michael White, Dudley Stokes, Devon Harris, Frederick Powell and Clayton Solomon. White, Stokes, Harris and Powell travelled to the team's first international competition, the 1988 Calgary Olympics.
At the Calgary games, Dudley Stokes and Michael White were the first team members to compete in the two-man event. After Powell was injured in a training run, Dudley Stokes' brother Chris was recruited to fill out the team for the four-man event. The original Jamaican team was coached by American Howard Siler, Jr., a former member and coach of the U.S. bobsled team.
