When were sweatpants invented?

According to The Daily Beast, Le Coq Sportif invented sweatpants in France during the 1920s. Although originally intended for athletic purposes and at-home comfort, as of 2014, sweatpants are worn in a number of situations.

Usually made of cotton or polyester, sweatpants have an elastic waist and are typically very loose and baggy, providing more comfort than traditional slacks.

In South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Britain, sweatpants are referred to as jogging bottoms or tracksuit bottoms. In Australia, sweatpants are also commonly referred to as tracky daks.

Variations of sweatpants include tearaway pants, muscle pants, fashion pants and wind pants.
