What is a West Point bridge designer?

West Point Bridge Designer is software used to design a virtual bridge in the Engineering Encounters Bridge Design Contest. The contest, formerly known as the West Point Bridge Design Contest, asks middle and high school students to design a truss bridge, with a $5000 scholarship as the prize.

The West Point Bridge Designer software is open-source software available for PCs and Macs. It is not available for mobile device platforms as of 2014. Because the software is in the public domain, people who use it are free to pass along copies to others. Those entering the bridge design contest must use the most recent version of the software for their designs.
