How do you whiten yellowed linoleum?

Restore yellowed linoleum using a solution of bleach. Leave the bleach on the floor for about 30 minutes before rinsing it away and neutralizing with vinegar. Apply a linoleum sealant to prevent future yellowing.
- Mix the cleaning solution
Pour four cups of bleach into a bucket. Add one gallon of cool water to the bleach, and mix well. Avoid using warm or hot water on linoleum as it, along with ammonia-based cleaners, causes further yellowing. Wear rubber gloves when working with bleach.
- Apply the bleach to the floor
Use a cloth to spread the solution on the floor. Continue to wet the cloth so you leave a thin coat of the solution on the linoleum. Wait for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- Remove the solution
Soak the bleach solution from the floor with a lint-free towel. Rinse the floor with a mop and cold, clean water. Empty the bucket, rinse and add 1/2 gallon of vinegar and 1/2 gallon of water. Mix this solution, and mop the floor to neutralize the bleach.
- Check for removal of the stain
Check the color of the floor. If a small amount of yellow remains, repeat the bleach process.
- Apply a new sealant
Once you remove the yellow stain, protect the floor by applying a new coat of linoleum sealant.
