When can you drive to the left of a yellow line?

Drivers are allowed to pass to the left if there is a broken line on the side of the driver who wants to turn left. Drivers can turn left into a left turn center lane, but such turn lanes are only cleared for a limited driving distance of 200 feet.
Turning left of a yellow lane is permitted in the case of intersections, private roads or private driveways. Drivers can also cross a yellow line if there is a carpool entrance to the left or if construction workers direct traffic in that direction. Drivers can typically turn left when the right side is obstructed or closed. Yellow lines that form a barrier can only be crossed when there is an appropriate opening, designated for car traffic.
