Elton John has written songs for himself, other performers, Broadway plays and feature animated films. Most of his success has been producing his own records, but animated films and Broadway plays have garnered him numerous awards.
Elton John started writing for Liberty records in 1967, but the following year he switched to the DJM label and released his debut album "Empty Sky." He wrote only for himself until the 1990s when he produced songs for the animated hits "Gnomeo and Juliet," "The Road to El Dorado" and "The Lion King," which won a Grammy and an Academy award. On Broadway, his scores won Tony awards for Aida and Billy Elliot.
