What is WiFi-Direct?

Wi-Fi Direct is a technology that allows compatible devices to connect with each other to form an ad-hoc network. This connection allows the devices to share data with each other at higher speeds when compared to a standard Bluetooth connection.

While Wi-Fi Direct allows devices, such as laptops and printers, to connect to each other, it does not create an Internet connection. For security, devices using this technology use a Wi-Fi protected setup security protocol to keep connections private, limiting the possibility of an unauthorised connection. Devices using Wi-Fi Direct can also use a discovery function that allows them to find compatible devices nearby.
