Wild mountain lions eat animals such as deer, coyotes, raccoons and porcupines. Mountain lions are also known as cougars and pumas.

Mountain lions usually hunt at night or during twilight. They patiently stalk their prey until they get an opportunity to pounce, then deliver a fatal bite to the back of the neck. Mountain lions hide the carcasses of their prey and feed on them over a few days.

Mountain lions are shy, solitary animals and seldom seen by humans. They are very territorial and need a lot of room to survive; only a few cats can live in a 30-square-mile range.
