What eats mountain lions?

Mountain lions don't have any natural predators. A mountain lion's only concern is being hunted by humans. Mountain lions typically prey on deer, coyotes and raccoons.

The mountain lion is also known as a cougar, puma or catamount. While mountain lions usually hunt at night, they are also known to hunt at dawn or dusk. They are solitary animals and therefore don't hunt in groups like the African lion. Mountain lions are not prone to attacking humans, but there are a few human fatalities each year.

Mountain lions used to roam most of the United States. However, the mountain lion population began to decrease dramatically in the Midwest and Eastern United States at the beginning of the 20th century.
