Wind belts describe the circulation of winds around the Earth that is caused by the redistribution of heat from low latitudes to high latitudes. There are six major wind belts that circle the globe. The belts are divided equally with three in each hemisphere.
The six wind belts are divided into three categories: the Polar Easterlies, the Westerlies and the trade winds. The wind belts move either north or south depending on the seasons at each hemisphere. The wind belts in the northern hemisphere are bent in a clockwise direction due to the Coriolis effect, which is generated by the rotation of the Earth.
