How is wind erosion different from water erosion?

Wind erosion happens when pieces of the Earth are worn away by strong winds over time, and water erosion happens when moving water such as ocean waves wear away rock instead of seeping into the ground. Water is a more powerful erosion force than wind.

Before erosion takes place, weathering must occur. Weathering is the breakdown of rock into smaller pieces by different processes like water and wind. Erosion is what happens when these pieces are removed and taken away from their original location.

One of the most detrimental forms of erosion is beach erosion. Over time, water washes over the beaches and takes the coastline into the ocean, driving beaches farther inland.
