Does Windex get rid of zits?

Windex is not an effective remedy for spot treating zits. Popularized by the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," the phrase "Put some Windex on it" has led many to believe that Windex is a folk remedy for skin ailments. However, this remedy is futile in eliminating acne.
The content in Windex mainly consists of ammonia, detergents, fragrance to moderate the odor of ammonia and dye, and these ingredients are not meant to be applied topically. Mayo Clinic recommends a number of acne-fighting products including benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, alpha hydroxy acids and sulfur. Ammonia, the ingredient in Windex that clears counter tops, is not on that list and will actually irritate skin, making acne worse.
