Does wine freeze?
By Forinfos - 20/02/2025 - 0 comments
Wine does freeze, depending on the alcohol content, when it reaches a temperature between 15 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. The water in the wine freezes first, as alcohol has a lower freezing point than water.
After the water in the wine freezes, the alcohol begins to freeze as well. As the freezing process takes place, the wine expands. If the wine is in a bottle sealed with a cork, the increased pressure could potentially split the cork or break the bottle. Other factors to consider include the sugar content of the wine and whether the wine type is white or red.
