Wolfsbane is one of the common names for the plant Aconitum napellus. All parts of wolfsbane are extremely poisonous, though if prepared correctly they can also serve as a medical sedative and cough suppressant.
According to the Missouri Botanical Garden, Wolfsbane is native to Europe and Asia. Its most recognizable trait are the hooded purplish-blue flowers that grow in clusters on a long stalk.
Wolfsbane is an attractive and resilient plant that is good for cultivating in gardens. However, the poisonous nature of the plant means that is should be handled with care. Always wear gloves when working with wolfsbane, and keep children and pets away from it.
