Is a wolf a carnivore?

Wolves are mainly carnivores. Although they occasionally eat plants and berries, they are skilled hunters and scavengers, and the vast majority of their diet consists of meat.

Wolves generally hunt in packs in order to maximize their chances of catching prey. While hunting, they often target young, weak, sick or elderly prey that are easier to kill in order to avoid spending too much energy during the hunt. Wolves are also opportunistic scavengers and eat carrion when it is available. They often hide their meat in ice or snow in order to preserve it and hide it from other scavengers.
