Are there wolves in Ohio?

As of 2014, there are no wild wolf populations in Ohio. However, some residents are allowed to keep wolves as pets as long as they are in a cage or under other similar conditions.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service began reintroducing gray wolves into specific areas as early as 1973. Some of these areas are close to Ohio, with the greatest concentrations being along the western Great Lakes region of Michigan. As of 2014, the USFWS is currently monitoring areas in Ohio, ranging from the area south of the centerline of Highway 80 and east of the Maumee River at Toledo, for possible incursions.
