Where do wombats live?

Wombats can be found living in Australia and on islands off of the continent's southeast coast. They live in habitats like pastures, fields, eucalyptus forests and grasslands, and they have been known to live on and cause destruction to ranch and farm land. Wombats live in burrows that they dig underneath the earth, and they may live alone or in large groups called colonies or mobs.

Wombats are pudgy marsupials with pouches for carrying their young. They can grow from 28 to 47 inches tall and weigh from 32 to 80 pounds when fully grown. Wombats are nocturnal, herbivorous creatures that eat a vegetarian diet which consists primarily of bark, grasses and roots.
