What do woodchucks eat?

Woodchucks, also known as groundhogs, usually follow an herbivorous diet, feeding mainly on grasses, bark, fruits, berries and other plant material. Groundhogs sometimes eat small animals, such as grasshoppers, snails and grubs. Some groundhogs eat nuts, but unlike other members of the squirrel family, they don't bury them.

Groundhogs gorge themselves on food during the summer and fall so they can sustain themselves during winter hibernation. By eating so much at a time, they build up fat that their bodies feed on during winter. Groundhogs are capable of eating entire plots of crops, which is why they're considered to be a nuisance by many farmers.
