The word "class" in TV specifications is a legal term that relates to the approximate diagonal size of the TV screen. The actual diagonal length of a screen of a TV advertised as having a 32-inch class may be between 31.0 inches and 31.9 inches.

Television and computer monitor manufacturers use the term "class" to avoid litigation in case a customer were to accuse them of listing a TV size that does not exactly match the advertised size. The use of the term "class" gives companies the impression of being transparent in legal terms, but it can also give customers the impression that companies are inflating the actual size of the screen for advertising purposes.
