The world record steelhead is a 29 1/2-pound, 44-inch rainbow taken from the Hoh River in Washington, as of 2014. The world record salmon is a 97 1/4-pound, 58 1/4-inch long king salmon caught from Alaska's Kenai River.

Peter Harrison caught his record steelhead on Feb. 20, 2009, using a fly and double-handed rod. After a 45-minute battle, Harrison was able to beach the fish. This record steelhead also had a girth of 23 1/2 inches.

The world record salmon was caught by Les Anderson on May 17, 1985. Anderson was 68 years old at the time and fought the king salmon for 45 minutes. This record breaker was caught using salmon eggs hooked to the end of a Spin-N-Glo lure. The fish's girth measured 37 1/4 inches.
