What are some highlights of the life of the prophet Elijah?

Elijah lived by a brook where ravens fed him. The brook dried up and Elijah went to Zarephath to live with a widow and her son. She agreed to bake bread for him, and Yahweh blessed her with an ongoing supply of oil and flour.

When the widow's young son died, Elijah prayed and a miracle restored life to the child. Elijah challenged 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah to produce a sign from Baal by offering a bull to him as a sacrifice, which failed. Elijah performed a similar sacrifice, which Yahweh honored by sending fire from heaven to consume the altar, the offering, the wood and the dust surrounding it.
