What is the meaning of the Trinity?

The Christian doctrine of the Trinity embodies the belief in one God who exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each person of the Trinity exhibits a distinct personality as a part of one God, rather than one of three gods.

Trinitarians base their beliefs on Biblical distinctions that God the Father designs, God the Son creates and God the Holy Spirit enlivens. An issue of complexity arises in the Biblical emphasis that there is only one God. Combining the two seemingly disparate beliefs stresses both the unity and the diversity of one God in three co-existing persons, which was first identified and communicated in 215 A.D.
