What is the WPS button for on a router?

The WPS button on a router is the Wi-Fi protected setup. It allows the connection between the modem and router to work more smoothly, resulting in better reliability and faster speeds.
A WPS system only works for wireless networks that have WPA2 or WPA Personal security settings. This type of security system simplifies the connection process by eliminating the need to enter a passcode. Once enabled, a WPS device will remember the passcode and send it to other devices. However, the WPS uses PINs to connect to a router and sometimes, those PINs can be insecure. Whether or not a user chooses to implement one, the router automatically generates an 8-digit PIN and this makes it easier for hackers to find their way into the system.
