How do you write a quote?

Using MLA style, a short quote is written inside of quotation marks, while a longer quote is written inside its own block of text without quotation marks. Quoted poems should contain a slash to indicate an original line break in the poem.
A quote is considered to be a short one if it's fewer than three lines of verse or four lines of prose. The author of the quote and the page number the quote was found on should also be written in the same sentence as the quote.
A long quote in its own block of text starts on a new line indented 1 inch from the left page margin. If more than one paragraph of text is being quoted, only the first line of each paragraph has to be indented.
