Who wrote Exodus?

Both the Old and New Testaments refer to Moses as the author of the book of Exodus. Statements in the book of Exodus itself and in the books of Joshua, Mark and Luke indicate Moses was the author.

"Exodus" is a word with Greek roots that means "departure" or "exit." This book tells the story of how God helped Moses free the Israelites from captivity and slavery in Egypt. The estimated dates of the events told in Exodus vary, but biblical scholars put them between the years 1446 and 1390 B.C. While modern scholars are not certain, Bible teachers generally teach that Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible, including Exodus.
