Who wrote the line "I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree"?

The line "I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree" comes from the lyric poem "Trees" by American poet Joyce Kilmer. Kilmer wrote the poem upstairs in his New Jersey home on February 2, 1913, according to his oldest son, Kenton.

The poem first appeared in the August 1913 issue of Chicago-based magazine Poetry: A Magazine of Verse. The following year, "Trees" became the title poem of Kilmer's collection Trees and Other Poems. Written in iambic tetrameter, with twelve lines of rhyming couplets, critics consider "Trees" to be Kilmer's most memorable work, due to the simplicity of its message. Friend and editor Robert Holliday claimed the poem was "made for immediate widespread popularity."
