William Golding wrote "Lord of the Flies." First published in 1954, "Lord of the Flies" is a dystopian novel that tells the story of a group of boys stranded on a deserted island who attempt to create a system of government by which they can survive on their own.
"Lord of the Flies" only sold 3,000 copies on its first publication run before going out of print. Since its original publication, however, its popularity grew, and it is rated as one of the most popular novels in the English language, as of 2015. Time Magazine named it one of the 100 best novels written between 1923 and 2005.
