What are yard flamingos?

Yard flamingos are plastic lawn ornaments, usually pink, that a homeowner uses to decorate and accent their yard. They belong in the same pop culture niche as lawn gnomes, often called kitsch.

Don Featherstone invented Pink flamingos in 1957 while working for a company named Union Products. Since their inception, lawn flamingos were extremely popular and led to Mr. Featherstone winning the Ig Nobel prize, a prize handed out for unusual achievements, for his impact on popular culture. Since then, pink flamingos have fallen into the category of kitsch, which is a mass-produced and gaudy style of art created to have wide appeal.
