The cellphone was invented in 1973. The first call from a cellphone was made in New York City on April 3, 1973.
The first cellphone was manufactured by Motorola. The phone was called the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x, which later became the first commercial cellphone sold to consumers in 1983.
Even though the first phone call was made from a cellphone in the 1970s, the electronic device didn't gain popularity until several decades later. The Nokia 3210, which was released in 1999, spearheaded the popularity of the cellphone. Since then, the phone has drastically changed, evolving from a device that can make phone calls to one that can process data and surf the Web.
