In what year did Martin Luther King Jr. die?

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m. on April 4, 1968. King was assassinated by James Earl Ray and was hit by the sniper's bullet at 6:01 p.m. When King was shot, he was standing on the balcony at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.

After being hit by a .30-caliber rifle bullet, King was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital. He never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead. The bullet entered the right cheek, traveled through the neck, down the spinal cord and stopped at the shoulder blade. The Lorraine Motel later became a civil rights museum.
