According to British Glass, glass dates back to 4000 B.C. Experts believe that glass first took the form of beads, with glass containers following at approximately 1500 B.C.
Glassblowing became an art in the first century B.C. when the filtration process, which removed all of the impurities, was perfected. When the Roman Empire crumbled, other societies began to use their glassmaking techniques. The Venetians especially showed great skill and gained an international reputation for their abilities. Glassmakers took a step forward in advancing the process when lead crystal glass was created as an answer to the clouding that naturally occurred.
