ABC broadcasted the Rose Bowl football game from 1989 to 2010. In 2011, the broadcast was moved to the ESPN cable network, on which it will continue to air through 2026.

Disney owns both ABC and ESPN, but the company chose to move the Rose Bowl to ESPN after the sports network acquired the rights to be the exclusive broadcaster for the Bowl Championship Series and almost all other college football bowl games. The BCS is the organization that determines the rankings of college football teams based on win-loss record, points scored for and against, and difficulty of game schedule.
