As of 2015, the Oscars have been broadcast live on ABC every year since 1976. The network's contract gives them permission to continue to air the ceremony through the year 2020. It is the only awards show broadcast live in all time zones.
The first televised Oscar ceremony was broadcast on NBC in 1953. In 1960, ABC took over the rights and broadcast the Oscars through 1970, when NBC briefly resumed the broadcasts. In 1976, ABC began airing the Oscars again. The show also airs internationally in more than 200 countries. Additionally, ABC allowed the 2015 Oscars to be streamed on its website for three days following the ceremony.
