What is the yield strength of aluminum?
By Forinfos - 28/06/2025 - 0 comments
Pure aluminum has a yield strength of between 7 and 11 megapascals (MPa). Aluminum is often alloyed with other metals to increase its yield strength. Some aluminum alloys are rated as being able to withstand between 200 MPa and 600 MPa.
Weldadite, an aluminum-lithium alloy developed by Lockheed Martin, is able to withstand 710 MPa of pressure without deforming. Even this alloy, however, has been surpassed in yield strength by an aluminum-zinc-magnesium-copper alloy developed by Kobe Steel that has a yield strength of 780 MPa. This alloy is made by atomizing the aluminum as it passes out of a furnace to preserve the fine-grained microstructure of the alloy.
