Zinc bromide is a white crystalline, non combustible solid with a formula of Br2Zn. It has a variety of industrial uses, including the manufacturing of bromides and rayon, photographic processing, oil field drilling applications and as a sedative in medicine when used in pharmaceutical grade.
Zinc bromide is manufactured by an interaction of barium bromide and zinc sulfate solution that is then crystallized. It is an acidic, inorganic salt that is soluble in water. Solutions of zinc bromide in water have moderate concentrations of hydrogen ions and pH values less than seven. They react as acids to neutralize bases. They don't usually react as oxidizing or reducing agents.
