Who are the "1 percent"?
By Forinfos - 04/02/2025 - 0 comments
The 1 Percent are American taxpayers whose annual incomes put them in the top percentile of earnings. This group of income earners was the target of protests and rallies during 2011 at the various Occupy movements.
The term "1 Percent" was derived from the Occupy slogan "We are the 99 percent," and was designed to point out the growing income inequality in the United States. Starting at Occupy Wall Street, the movement and concept spread throughout the United States and then the world. The income inequity was widely referenced during 2011 and 2012 in Democratic policy proposals as well as in the 2012 election season.
