Who is on the $20 bill?

As of May 2014, President Andrew Jackson is featured on the $20 bill. Until 1929, the bill had a picture of Grover Cleveland, but the U.S. Treasury decided to replace Cleveland's picture with a picture of Jackson.

Although Jackson is featured on the $20 bill, he was against the use of paper money. According to NPR, President Jackson was also opposed to debt, which prompted him to block spending bills and take drastic measures to pay off the national debt. In 1835, Jackson took advantage of a real estate bubble by selling off government-owned land in the western United States. He used the money to pay off the national debt, resulting in a surplus that was divided among the states.
