An abnormal complete blood count test result means that red blood cells, hematocrit, hemoglobin, white blood cells or platelets in the blood are not within normal ranges, according to MedlinePlus. When any of these components are too high or too low, many different conditions are possible.

High red blood cell, hematocrit or hemoglobin counts on a CBC can suggest dehydration, kidney disease or low oxygenation, explains MedlinePlus. Low red blood cell, hematocrit or hemoglobin counts are a sign of anemia, and a low white blood cell count can suggest infection or an autoimmune disease. A high platelet count many be due to bleeding, and a low platelet count may indicate anemia.
