What is the acceptable range for eosinophils?

An acceptable eosinophil range is 30 to 350 in an absolute blood count, Medscape claims. Someone who has more than 500 eosinophils per microliter of blood is classed as suffering from eosinophilia, according to Mayo Clinic.

An adult who has more than 1,500 eosinophils per microliter of blood is classed as having hypereosinophillic syndrome. Eosinophilia arises when an area of the body needs more eosinophils than usual, causing the bone marrow to produce more. Conditions that induce this state include:

  • Fungal and parasitic diseases
  • Allergies
  • Adrenal disorders
  • Skin conditions, like dermatitis
  • Autoimmune diseases, like lupus
  • Endocrine disorders
  • Tumors, including ovarian cancer
The most common causes of eosinophilia are autoimmune disorders and allergies.
