The OraQuck HIV test is 91.7 percent accurate when someone is infected with the HIV virus, and 99.9 percent accurate in someone who is not infected with the virus, according to OraQuick website. These numbers indicate a false-negative in one in every 12 tests of an HIV infected person.
The OraQuick HIV test uses saliva to test for the antibodies the body's immune system gives off when an HIV infection is present. It detects the antibodies rather than the virus itself. This test detects the HIV antibodies in as little as 20 minutes, while standard screening takes as much as two weeks, according to the OraQuick website.
