What is the advantage of using a thatch rake?

A thatch rake allows the user to remove built-up thatch in the lawn, which improves the overall health of the grass. The rake is designed especially for dethatching the lawn. Using a rake to manually dethatch the lawn causes less stress to the lawn than power equipment used for dethatching.
Thatch is a build-up of dead grass and other plant material that gets trapped between the grass blades and roots. Too much thatch limits the amount of nutrients, water and oxygen that reaches the grass roots. The sharpened tines on a thatching rake cut through the thatch and lift it up out of the grass. Thatching rakes work best on small yards.
